❷ hair care

A couple of months ago I had to go through what is probably a girl's worst nightmare and have pretty much all of my hair cut off as it was ripping apart every time I brushed it. Long story short: I dyed it too much and although I lightened it very slowly (with lots of coconut oil in the process) I left some silver shampoo on too long and it dried my hair out so much that it just tore in half.

Anyway! As a result I have begun looking after my hair as much as possible and I thought I would write a blog post on what exactly I do for hair care.

These are pretty much all of the products that I use along side taking a biotin supplement daily.
T-B/L-R: Palmer's Strong Roots Spray, Palmer's Olive Oil Gro Therapy, Vatika Coconut Oil, Garnier Ultimate Blends - Sleek Perfector Oil, Vatika Argan Oil, KTC Pure Almond Oil, Vatika Olive Oil.

All of these products can be found in Superdrug in their ethnic hair care section (Asian, Afro), which I really think should be renamed 'actual hair care section for healthy hair'. Though I would like to say that the next time I buy olive oil I'm going to go ahead and buy a bottle of organic olive oil from the supermarket - much bigger bottle for the price.

Every week I will do a hair soak of one or all the hair oils shown above. I just pile it onto my hair, massage it into my scalp and leave it on over night (sometimes two if I'm not working) and wash it out in the morning. Each time I wash my hair, while its still wet, I'll apply the gro therapy and massage that into my scalp but leave it on. Then I follow up with Garnier's Ultimate Blends oil for heat protection (which I also use a small amount of before and after heat styling), sometimes a splash of Argan oil on the ends and the coconut oil root spray, which tingles in a really nice way.

After that I brush it all through and let my hair dry by itself. One thing I didn't picture is that I treated myself to an expensive hair brush that has various bristles as I wanted to ensure my hair really was getting the best that it could.

Now, one major and important discovery is the scarf underneath all of these amazing products. I have recently learned that wearing this silk scarf wrapped around my head at night not only keeps my hair straight but prevents breakage from moving around in my sleep. It saves me time each morning before work and saves my hair from torturous heat - I only have to straighten it once all over and sometimes touch up a couple of places the next morning. Much better than doing the whole thing every single day!
Next thing on my hair care essentials is switching from drug store shampoo and conditioner to this brand of horse shampoo instead. After using it twice my hair has become much softer and stronger, it's about £8 for both bottles together with free postage from eBay. It's safe for coloured/permed hair and the bottles are pretty big so I think the price is worth it. If you're a little dubious still then I would recommend the shampoo and conditioner that matches my Ultimate Blends oil or using Herbal Essences 0%.

My hair ends up, obviously, quite oily or greasy looking at times but I know it's good for it and I opt to counter it with dry shampoo (currently using Batiste's Strength & Shine). I really hope this is helpful to someone out there ♡!
